  • Ways to Encourage Playtime on the Swing Set

Ways to Encourage Children to Play Outside on the Backyard Swing Set

A backyard swing set is a must-have for most families these days. The kids have a safe place where they can get active and have fun day after day. Mom and dad have the security of knowing the kids are just outside the kitchen window. And of course, the opportunities for new and exciting play are nothing short of abundant. The playset is the type of investment that pays for itself -- and then some -- in the long-run.

Still, the day might come when it's difficult to tear the kids away from the video games or tablet. If that's the case, we have a few suggestions that will help you get the little ones to return to regular play on their beloved backyard swing set.

    • Encourage swing set playtime with a friend. This can include spontaneous evening get-togethers, scheduled playtime during the weekends, and more.
    • Encourage your children to play on the swing set with you. This is a great parent-child activity that presents an opportunity for both you and your child to get physical activity.
    • Encourage outdoor activity as a time away from devices and homework, and a time that can be used to focus on relaxing.
    • Incorporate a playtime activity into each season. For example, in the fall season you can incorporate playtime into your child’s other favorite activities such as raking, playing in a pile of leaves, enjoying a cup of warm apple cider, etc.
    • Use the outdoor swing set as the main attraction for your next gathering. Whether you're hosting a Halloween party, birthday bash, or a spring or summer barbecue, the playset is the perfect place for a group of kids to play. Plus, depending on the occasion, you can add decorations to the swing set to make your backyard a bit more festive.
    • Make swing set personalization an ongoing process. This means allowing the kids to add their own creative touches to the clubhouse, playhouse and/or tree house. Think stickers, a nearby flower garden, toy dishes for the built-in picnic table, and more.

Playing on the backyard swing set doesn't have to be predictable. With these tips, you'll be able to nudge the children to spend even more time outside, without them knowing it!

  • Swing Sets Make Memories

(Updated post): Think back to when you were a child, and what your favorite memories were. For many, it may have been a favorite stuffed animal that we went to sleep with every night, or for the lucky ones, it was a cherished swing set our father built with love, spare time and some carpentry skill!

Did you love spending hours as a child on your tire swing, or in your tree house?

This time around with your own children to care for, why not bring in an already built and assembled swing set? It will leave you with more time to make memories with your children, and a bond that will never fade!

The fact is, the best things for children are often the simplest, and when you bring in a swing set, you bring in memories for them that make them feel loved, give them something that lasts for years,  and something special that makes them feel like the king (or queen) of their domain. You'll share in the joy, too, as you watch your little ones having the time of their lives swooshing down the slide, swinging through the air, climbing, imagining and much more. Swing sets are  a wonderful part of childhood for children and parents alike.

It Strengthens Sibling Love and Affection

Whether you have two children close in age, or four children far apart in milestone development, one thing in the same—sibling rivalry happens. And when multiple children are cooped inside for hours at a time, it happens a lot! So, kill two birds with one stone—get your children outdoors in their swing set, and encourage activity and cooperation! They won’t just enjoy the fresh air; they’ll learn how to communicate, talk to one another and improve their social skills by leaps and bounds—something that reruns of their favorite cartoons could never provide!

It Gives the Kids a Space to Have Fun with Friends

If you love the idea of your children and their friends spending hours playing outside at your home, a backyard swing set is a no-brainer. Your house will become a popular after-school spot with the neighborhood kids, which means strong friendships that could very well last beyond childhood. Plus, they'll continue to develop great social skills while learning how to entertain themselves.

    It Helps Prevent Childhood Obesity

No matter where in the country you live, no one is safe from pre-diabetes or obesity, and that especially includes children. While you can’t totally control what your children eat at lunchtime during school hours, you can control how much activity they get at home, which is one of the reasons encouraging swing set activity is so great! You can help them decrease their mindset of, “There’s nothing to do. I’m bored,” when they stay in motion swinging, climbing or sliding down for an hour or more; thus, eliminating their risk of childhood obesity in the process!

It Allows Kids a Place to be Kids

Life moves at a super speed these days, and not even young children are immune to it. From cyber bullying to exposure to overly sexual images on TV, why not give your kids the best gift of all—an opportunity to just be a kid?  Swing sets allow children to jump, run, climb and swing without a care in the world.

Swing sets make beautiful memories for your children, and for your entire family. It allows them to learn how to treat their siblings, increases their daily exercise and activity and best of all, allows them to just be kids having fun, and enjoy the moment of what being a kid is all about. Childhood will pass them by fast enough, so make these memories last while you can!

  • Swing Set Safety #2

    Swing Set Safety #2

When it comes to your children’s happiness, you’re the pro. You know what makes them giggle with glee, or pout in misery. You are also the one that knows what puts an automatic smile on their face any time you suggest it—their swing set! However, there’s no worst rude awakening than when your child is swinging on their swing set one minute, and wincing out in pain the next. Keep them safe, happy and loving every second they spend swinging and sliding by applying the following rules. Then, everyone in your family can rest assured, stay safe and sound.

Teach Your Children the Right Way to Swing

It’s easy to get so distracted by your children’s excitementover their brand new swing set,  that you forget about the most important thing—their safety. Whether your kids are playing at an indoor play area, or your very own backyard, safety comes first each and every time. Surprising your children with a new swing set, such as the Supremescape Swing set from Eastern Jungle Gym is an exhilarating moment for any family, but remember: safety first!

Acclimate your children to the “Do” and “Don’t” rules of their swing set. Spend a few moments teaching them about the right way to swing (facing forward with both hands on the chains, etc.) as opposed to the “wrong” way (jumping off in mid-air, etc.)

Make Swinging a Fun Family Affair

When it comes to children, accidents can and do happen. It’s inevitable—a trip on the slippery floor here, or a bump on their head, there. So, when it comes to swing set safety, the number rule you should always commit to is supervision at all times. Even with safe, top of the line equipment that you’ll find on all Best in Backyards swing sets, they can’t protect you from a slip, misstep or fall, all of which can be prevented with consistent supervision.

Make their ‘swing time’ a family affair! Sure, it’s just your backyard, but treat it like you’re going to park and have hours of fun. Pack their favorite snacks and juice. Watch their faces light up as you applaud them as they slide down, racing their sibling to the finish line!

Check all Swings, Chains and Bolts for Tightness

Over time, some swing set hardware can loosen. And, when wet, it can become slippery, causing young ones to injure themselves easily. It’s important before every play session, that you survey your swing set for any signs of safety risk. Wipe down slippery surfaces, such as on the slide, swing and ladders. Once a month, search for visible signs of loosening. Then, look down! The most common area for children to injure themselves is because of slippery surfaces. There’s no time like the present—order our rubber mulch (the safest surfacing around!)—for an eco-friendly, smart choice. Available in a variety of colors, they go perfectly with your backyard equipment! Then sit back and relax. You’ve done your part to keep everyone in your family happy and out of harm’s way.

  • Benefits of Your Swing Set (You Didn't Realize Until Now)

    2e1ax_vintage_entry_sky-kids

Swing sets are good, old fashioned fun. What else can your children do that’s in the convenience of your backyard, can be enjoyed for hours on end and gives you and your kids the advantage of fresh air and zero guilt? While you may know that swing sets are a great addition to your backyard, what you may not know is how many benefits they offer! Here are some creative and usual advantages your swing set brings to your kids life.

    It Boosts Their Self-Esteem

Sigh…how childhood has changed from when you were one. The biggest reason for this? There’s less and less opportunity for kids to act like kids. From academic to athletic pressures at school; peer pressure to cyber bullying, kids need a place that is safe, is assessable and can improve their self-esteem in one shot! That’s the beauty of swing sets. There’s no ‘downside’ or risk to having one (unlike so many other manufactured kids toys on the market) because with each slide, step or swing they engage in, they’re building confidence. They’re releasing anxiety. Best of all, they’re feeling good about themselves again.

It Allows Them to Improve Their Problem Solving Skills

Whether you have a five year old or a fifteen year old, children use any and every opportunity to learn. They learn about the world through what you say, and what you do. They learn how to act by how their friends act, or what’s suggested on TV. But invest in one of our Ultimate Swing Set Series, and they’ll learn, examine, assess, and come up with their own conclusions for swinging, sliding and playing their heart out! When you give them the gift of a swing set, you’re putting your mind at ease by knowing that their mind is sharpening and their body is strengthening. But to your kids, they’ll just think you’re the best parent there could ever be! It’s a win/win.

    It Promotes an Active Lifestyle

When you were young, you didn’t have video games or the internet to keep your indoors. Sure, while that may make you sound a bit…old(!) this was a good thing. You had the advantage of fresh air and exercise (probably in excess!) whereas for kids now days, it’s much more of a challenge. The fact is, if your children aren’t being active, then chances are they’re ripping into a bag of potato chips and zoning out into a marathon of their favorite TV show. Ultimately, this sets a precedent for a sedentary life, not an engaging, interactive one.

Swing sets on the other hand, promote an active lifestyle.  It encourages a healthy outlet to release stress and excess energy—because let’s face it, when it comes to your growing children, you’re always on the lookout for a new way that they can release their pent up energy and enthusiasm!

Our swing sets are designed to allow your children to have good, old fashioned fun—the kind of fun you once had.  Check out our top of the line swing sets that aren’t just kid-approved, but meet your demands too! Start creating childhood memories today!

Backyard Activities That Can’t Be Beat!

While you love going to the movies, and chatting with each other over dinner—it’s easy to feel like as a family, you’re doing the same thing day after day.  If you had your way, you’d love to stir up the pot with some new, creative ways to spend time together as a family (and get that look of boredom off of your kids face!) Sit back and relax, because we’ve got three suggestions that are just what you’re looking for!

Bring the Beach to Your Backyard

If you don’t have the chance to head to the sand and surf too often, who says you can’t bring the beach to you? Whether you have toddlers or school aged children, a sandbox is a great way to give them the excitement of the beach, without having to make a day trip to one. If you want to get them really excited about spending hours making sandcastles in your backyard, look online for specials on clever sandbox bases—you can find creative fire trucks or fairytale castles to hold your sandbox in (that you can’t always find at your local store.)

Create Memories With a Swing Set

There’s no getting around it—when you invest in a swing set, you’re creating memories for your entire family. Do your son and daughter fight like cats and dogs? The swing set should take care of that. Does your 8 year old only child seem to continually have a look of boredom on her face? Put a swing set in your back yard and she’ll squeal with delight as she slides and swings for hours on end. Buy our Dreamscape swing set, and in addition to our sale price, you’ll receive delivery and installation for free. What’s a better gift for your children than outdoor fun they’ll enjoy each and every day?

Play a Round of Miniature Golf

Whether you have toddlers or teenagers in the house, having a happy family means that you need to change up the activity from time to time. Instead of the usual weekend mall shopping or TV watching, why not round up everyone in the backyard for some miniature golf instead? You can cater it for any and all ages (from simple to challenging), give each family member a putter, and be as creative as you’d like with the setup! Add some personal touches that your family will love, such as using part of your son’s Thomas the Train tunnel to create an obstacle for the golf ball to go through. The more involved you get in the process of turning your backyard into miniature golf mania, the more engaged they’ll become!

With such a busy schedule day after day, it’s easy to get bogged down with all the things you have to do. But what about what you want to do, such as getting your family together for some good, old fashioned fun? We’d love to hear what you and your family does for weekend fun! Safety Tips for Kids Playing Outdoors

If your child is always on the move, consider yourself lucky. That means that your child is healthy, happy and as curious about life as they should be! Whether your child loves splashing in puddles of rain during the fall, making snow angels in wintertime, or lying down in the grass as she basks in the sun of summer, you’re main concern (year round) is keeping them as safe as possible.  We’ve put together a cheat sheet for you, so that no matter time of the year it is, your kids stay happy and healthy without risk of injury!

Scan Your Backyard For Danger and Risk

It’s easy for your children to break a rule about playing safely outside—especially when they aren’t clear on what those rules are! You may think because your children are playing in your backyard, that they’re out of harm’s way—but as you well know, children always need supervision. As active as they are, an injury or accident can happen in a split second, but you can significantly reduce their risk by surveying your backyard before they start playing.

It only takes a minute to be on the lookout and search out possible risks that could turn their playtime into harm. During wintertime, look for ice on your patio that may cause a slip. During the summer months, scan the ceilings and corners of your foundation (as well as swing set and treehouse) for bee hives. Take a look at your swing set. Is their snow or sleet on the slide? Do you swings need to be wiped down so your children can enjoy them without risk of slipping off? Point them out and tell your children there are a few “off limits” areas of the backyard they need to stay away from.

Keep an Eye on Them (Even When You Can’t)

If you need to go inside occasionally while your children are outside, set up a baby monitor—even if your kids are older and are well past the infant stage. If you aren’t staying outside supervising every minute they’re sliding and swinging, this can be a great tool to ensure they’re safe and out of danger.  Even during the winter months, kids can play outside for hours on end. Ultimately, children are quick to get dehydrated and run down (even if it seems like they are they could go all day!) Monitor how long they play. Set up breaks for water and a snack periodically so that they don’t run their body ragged and maintain a positive attitude with their playmates.

Whether you choose a swing set from our Sky Swing series or our Imagination Swing Set Series, you’ll love the change in activity and enthusiasm it brings out in your children. We believe in our product, and after our guys deliver and install it for you  we know you’ll believe in our product too! Have fun out there and be safe.
